San Ignacio de Loyola en Guipúzcoa En la España artistíco monumental

100.00

San Ignacio de Loyola en Guipúzcoa, part of Riccardo Rossi’s Days of Future Past series, breathes new life into a 19th-century lithograph, embedding the scene with the symbols and narratives of the Orange Republick universe. At its heart lies an almost cinematic moment: the author hustling to hang on the last tree to close the artwork with the last yellow Tree Tag. Focusing on the details of this renewed composition, the viewer  visually follows the river to discover the last tree to mark in the middle of waters. In the background, the Sanctuary of Saint Ignatius emerges with commanding presence, its architectural lines accentuated in bold red, infusing the composition with dramatic tension against the calm, verdant surroundings. Rossi’s reinterpretation juxtaposes the permanence of history with the fleeting nature of action, creating a dialogue that blends tradition, personal narrative, and the transformative power of art.

About “Days of Future Past” Collection

Days of Future Past is a collection of evocative drawings by Riccardo Rossi, created for The Orange Republick project. This series explores a thought-provoking vision of a reclaimed world, where nature envelops iconic landmarks and thrives in the absence of humanity. Each artwork reimagines a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature—or envisions a future where nature flourishes unopposed, reclaiming its dominance over human-made landscapes. The collection offers a narrative of renewal, ecological balance, and the fragility of the environment.

Technique

Riccardo Rossi uses Caran d’Ache pencils to reinterpret antique illustrations from “España artística y monumental: vistas y descripción de los sitios y monumentos más notables de España” by Don Genaro Pérez de Villa-Amil (1842–1850). These antique prints, sourced from flea markets, become the foundation for Rossi’s paradoxical landscapes. Through this technique, historic landmarks are transformed, surrounded by lush orange trees, vibrant grass, and crystalline waters, offering a serene, post-human vision where nature thrives.
