El Castillo Palacio Real de Olite

100.00

El Castillo Palacio Real de Olite captures the majestic medieval fortress in its full splendor, with its towering spires and crenellated walls standing as symbols of power and history. Yet, in this reinterpretation, nature has slowly reclaimed its space: atop the towers, trees now rise, their branches stretching outward, dominating the valley below. This striking contrast between the enduring stone structure and the organic force of nature illustrates the passage of time and the resilience of life.

This drawing, more than a historical representation, serves as a graphic symbol of the Orange Republick universe. The fusion of architecture and nature, coupled with the symbolic trees, speaks to the blending of old and new, tradition and transformation, central to the themes of the Orange Republick. The castle, once a seat of royal power, now stands as a quiet monument to the harmonious coexistence of history and the natural world.

About “Days of Future Past” Collection

Days of Future Past is a collection of evocative drawings by Riccardo Rossi, created for The Orange Republick project. This series explores a thought-provoking vision of a reclaimed world, where nature envelops iconic landmarks and thrives in the absence of humanity. Each artwork reimagines a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature—or envisions a future where nature flourishes unopposed, reclaiming its dominance over human-made landscapes. The collection offers a narrative of renewal, ecological balance, and the fragility of the environment.

Technique

Riccardo Rossi uses Caran d’Ache pencils to reinterpret antique illustrations from “España artística y monumental: vistas y descripción de los sitios y monumentos más notables de España” by Don Genaro Pérez de Villa-Amil (1842–1850). These antique prints, sourced from flea markets, become the foundation for Rossi’s paradoxical landscapes. Through this technique, historic landmarks are transformed, surrounded by lush orange trees, vibrant grass, and crystalline waters, offering a serene, post-human vision where nature thrives.
