Vista de la Maestranza de Sevilla

100.00

Vista de la Maestranza de Sevilla offers a provocative reinterpretation of the traditional bullfighting scene, replacing the spectacle of tauromaquia with a daring and imaginative challenge. In this utopian vision, the bullfighters exchange their usual role for a new test of skill: capturing an orange as it falls from a tree, using their blades to catch it before it reaches the ground. The artwork transforms the iconic Spanish arena into a space of playful reinvention, layering its vibrant imagery with subtle critique and a call for alternative traditions.

About “Days of Future Past” Collection

Days of Future Past is a collection of evocative drawings by Riccardo Rossi, created for The Orange Republick project. This series explores a thought-provoking vision of a reclaimed world, where nature envelops iconic landmarks and thrives in the absence of humanity. Each artwork reimagines a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature—or envisions a future where nature flourishes unopposed, reclaiming its dominance over human-made landscapes. The collection offers a narrative of renewal, ecological balance, and the fragility of the environment.

Technique

Riccardo Rossi uses Caran d’Ache pencils to reinterpret antique illustrations from “España artística y monumental: vistas y descripción de los sitios y monumentos más notables de España” by Don Genaro Pérez de Villa-Amil (1842–1850). These antique prints, sourced from flea markets, become the foundation for Rossi’s paradoxical landscapes. Through this technique, historic landmarks are transformed, surrounded by lush orange trees, vibrant grass, and crystalline waters, offering a serene, post-human vision where nature thrives.
